Astronergy increases TOPCon modules’ reliability with enhanced UVID resistance

Recently, Astronergy’s ASTRO N n-type TOPCon PV modules have passed the rigorous UVID tests, with a degradation rate of only 0.7% under the UV60 exposure, which reflects the outstanding reliability of the company’s module products to guarantee long-term stable power generation!

Based on RETC's PV Module Index Report 2024, UVID remains one of the significant challenges to module reliability in the industry. As a Tier-1 PV module manufacturer, Astronergy has made many efforts to improve UVID performance, providing our clients with reliable and top-quality PV modules.

By optimizing the structure of the cell passivation film layer, Astronergy adopts industry-leading thin film deposition technology to effectively improve the densification of the film layer. The adoption of this technology will result in a thicker and higher-precision Aluminum Oxide (ALO)film layer, making the silicon wafers free of winding plating. Meanwhile, combined with the LIF (laser induced firing) tech, the UV resistance of the film layer is effectively enhanced.

UVID refers to the performance degradation of PV modules under ultraviolet irradiation. If modules are exposed to sunlight for a long time, the UV rays in the sunlight will not only shorten the lifespan of encapsulation materials, but also affect the structure of passivation layers on the cell surface and destroy the Si-H bonds, thus affecting the effect of interfacial passivation and leading to the decline in the power generation.

In the rigorous UVID testing, Astronergy's ASTRO N n-type TOPCon PV modules have demonstrated exceptional performance, with a degradation rate of merely 0.7% after exposure to 60 kWh/m2 of UV60. Even after enduring the more extreme UV120 exposure, ASTRO N n-type TOPCon PV modules achieved a degradation rate of only 1.2%. The testing results are 4 and 8 times higher than the conventional UV15 certification standard, respectively.

Moreover, through continuous exploration and innovation, Astronergy has developed a cell UV monitoring system. It’s useful to identify the impact of new cell types and processes on UVID performance, thereby providing a more effective means of monitoring product quality, guaranteeing higher reliability continuously.

By leveraging TOPCon 4.0 cell technology, rectangular silicon wafers, SMBB, and other advanced technologies, ASTRO N n-type TOPCon PV modules offer higher efficiency, reliability, and lower LCOE. They ensure that after 30 years of output, the power will not drop below 87.4%.

In the future, Astronergy will stay committed to technological innovation, providing module products with superior durability and reliability.
