  • Nevados TRACE solar tracker first to be certified with Milwaukee Tool’s Controlled Torque Impact Wrenches with TORQUE-SENSE™ for 3X faster bolt tightening

Milwaukee Tool solution designed specifically for solar construction offers huge gains in installation efficiency and accuracy — saving 27+ person-hours per MW with Nevados system. OAKLAND, CA – Sept 10, 2024 — Nevados sought a partnership with Milwaukee Tool that resulted in its becoming the first solar tracker OEM to formally test and qualify Milwaukee’s new M18 FUEL™ Controlled Torque Impact Wrench with TORQUE-SENSE™. Tests on Nevados’ state-of-the-art TRACE™ All Terrain Tracker® found the self-adjusting wrench tightens bolts over three times faster and more accurately. The two firms will demo the smart tool together in Booth #D24057 at the RE+ conference and trade show in Anaheim, Sept. 9-12, where the new TRACE tracker is also on display. Nevados kicked off the qualification process with Milwaukee Tool and independent testing firm Eclipse-M at the Nevados proving ground in Davis, California. Results were then replicated this summer in Utah on a full-scale 400+ MW solar project under construction with Nevados trackers. Eclipse-M’s tests found that the new Milwaukee impact wrench, which incorporates machine learning, saves approximately 27.1 person-hours per MW on the Nevados system versus the current "2-step” method of tightening bolts with an impact wrench and then re-tightening them with a click-style torque wrench. That offers substantial cost savings on labor, while enhancing reliability and repeatability by ensuring that fasteners are torqued to the right specification. “These products are a real breakthrough for those working in solar construction,” said Yezin Taha, CEO of Nevados. “A key goal for all our work with EPCs and solar developers is to help increase efficiency and simplify construction, while delivering the highest quality installations. From the design of our hardware, to its installation on the jobsite, we are always looking for opportunities to make the customer experience better. As part of that process, we identified a huge opportunity for tools designed to meet their needs. Milwaukee saw the same opportunity and has delivered a great solution. These tools allow for much simpler and faster installation with zero compromise on safety. It’s a win for everyone involved.” The solar industry faces a challenge with constructability and rising soft costs, Taha said. The 2-step method offers an opportunity for improvements in efficiency, safety, and accuracy to avoid under- or over-torquing. Milwaukee’s M18 FUEL™ Controlled Torque Impact Wrenches with TORQUE-SENSE™ challenges the status quo by eliminating the need for manual torquing. Developed for the unique requirements of the solar jobsite, according to Milwaukee the innovative solution allows for faster installation while continuing to be the industry’s most torque-repeatable impact wrench. “Installation is a huge challenge for developers and EPCs, so we’ve put a lot of thought into how we can improve that process,” commented Mark Kelly, Group Product Manager at Milwaukee Tool. “We are delighted to have found a very willing partner in Nevados and even more, that the real-world testing and certification we have done together has demonstrated that our M18 FUEL Controlled Torque Impact Wrenches deliver on their promise. We can’t wait for more professionals to get their hands on them and experience the product benefits for themselves.” “Our testing found the Milwaukee solution to be approximately three to three and a half times faster than traditional torquing methods,” said Bill Poulin of Eclipse-M, who oversaw the tests at both Nevados locations. “Just as impressive is that those speeds have been achieved while being successfully used across 10s of MWs of production with zero reported torque failures during block QA. In our view, they can allow solar installers and EPCs to achieve faster, more reliable installations, contributing to the overall constructability and cost-effectiveness of utility-scale solar projects.” Taha added, “By offering Milwaukee the chance to demonstrate its new smart wrench on our trackers, we found it delivers on a need we saw for greater efficiency. We’re constantly looking for ways to help our customers, so we’re proud that Milwaukee agreed to make Nevados, with our history of innovation, the first to deploy this revolutionary tool.” Nevados and Milwaukee Tool are offering solar professionals hands-on demos of the M18 FUEL™ Controlled Torque Impact Wrenches with TORQUE-SENSE™ in Booth #D24057 in Hall D at RE+ in Anaheim. • Solar Farm: Benefits for Nature Beyond What You Imagine.

By Ricardo Honório - Energy Channel The combination of solar farms and low-lying vegetation can bring numerous benefits, not only for energy production, but also for various species of plants and animals. This land use model is proving to be a promising solution to address the environmental and energy challenges of our time. Energy and Biodiversity: An Essential Combination The use of productive areas for the installation of solar photovoltaic plants has always been a delicate issue, especially when it involves compromising fertile land intended for food production. However, the need for clean energy is as urgent as the need for food. The combination of these two worlds is essential to transform the global energy scenario and mitigate extreme weather problems. As solar power plants expand across the world, we see that plant life, insects and animals are benefiting from this new form of land use. For example, ground cover can reduce erosion and enrich the soil, making it more fertile for food production. The Ecological Crisis and Biodiversity Loss The ecological crisis is accelerating globally, with a collapse in biodiversity that worries scientists and directly affects human life. The loss of natural habitats due to human encroachment is one of the biggest problems facing us. In this context, clean energy from the sun has proven to be a great ally in the fight against climate change. Solar farms are expected to cover millions of acres in the coming years, but it is crucial that they are built in a way that conserves life and biodiversity. Challenges and Solutions Experts agree that two major challenges need to be addressed simultaneously: energy production and biodiversity conservation. Solar farms are proving to be habitats for insects and small animals, providing food and shelter. In addition, low-lying vegetation can reduce erosion and enrich the soil. A novel solution is agrivoltaics, which combines the right height of solar panels to allow for circulation of space beneath the panels. This creates a powerful combination of energy production, species conservation and food production. Conclusion The integration of solar farms with ground vegetation and agrivoltaic practices offers a sustainable solution to the energy and environmental challenges of our time. By promoting the coexistence of energy production and biodiversity conservation, we are paving the way for a more sustainable and balanced future.

  • Enteligent Launches DC-Powered Fleet Infrastructure Charging Solutionat RE+ Demonstration

Enteligent Launches DC-Powered Fleet Infrastructure Charging Solution  at RE+ Demonstration    MORGAN HILL, CA – August 27, 2024 —Enteligent Inc., developer of solar power optimization and electric vehicle (EV) solar charging technologies, invites media to attend a live demonstration of its highly anticipated DC-powered EV charger at the RE+ clean energy conference on  Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 1:30 p.m.  at the  Microgrid booth (#MOP2622)  in the  Marriott Outdoor Pavilion  at the  Anaheim Convention Center . The demonstration will pair the 25kW DC-coupled electric vehicle service equipment (EVSE) to a high-voltage DC bus to highlight the charger’s benefits for long dwell-time (more than 6 hours) EV fleet charging.   “The adoption of EVs for commercial fleets is growing, but a significant limiting factor is the lack of fleet-ready EV charging infrastructure solutions,” said Enteligent CEO Sean Burke. “Enteligent’s approach focuses on the inherent efficiency and reliability advantages of DC technology, avoiding the energy conversion losses and equipment costs associated with charging EVs directly from AC power sources. This reduces overall expenses, making clean energy more effective and affordable and expediting its widespread adoption.”   The traditional EV charging infrastructure uses AC Level 2 chargers that require significant engineering planning, long permitting wait times, and high costs.  AC charging relies on the vehicle’s onboard AC/DC converter to charge its DC battery, which wastes 10-20% of the energy through conversion losses and is often limited to low (<9.6 kW) charge rates.    Enteligent is the first to develop and launch a DC-powered EV charger that focuses on the efficiency and reliability benefits of DC microgrid technology. With up to 25 kW of fast DC charging—three times as fast as many AC Level 2 chargers—Enteligent DC chargers eliminate unnecessary AC-to-DC conversion losses, resulting in up to 20% energy savings.   As a fleet charging solution, Enteligent EVSEs couple to a high voltage (+700 V) DC bus, supplied by a commercial-scale inverter which efficiently converts grid-level AC electricity to a DC microgrid for the site while incorporating native DC PV solar generation and battery energy storage. A DC microgrid is substantially less expensive than AC-based infrastructure and maintains the PV solar generation as DC when stored in batteries, which saves more than 10% in AC/DC conversion losses. Because the fleet vehicles operate during the day and return to the depot in the evening, they charge overnight and do not require expensive ultrafast chargers.  Online analytics further optimize cost and usage tracking.   While the Enteligent DC-to-DC EV charger is perfect for long dwell-time charging for EV fleet operations and public and commercial charging, employers and retailers can implement a similar DC microgrid setup with solar canopies to deliver efficient and cost-effective charging solutions to employees and customers.   Initial volumes of the Enteligent DC EV Charger launched in June of 2024 with future models planned for the end of the year and into 2025.  Enteligent has also been accepting orders for its unique TLCEV solar canopy-powered DC EVSE which charges EVs directly from solar arrays.  About Enteligent  Enteligent is a California-based developer of smart solar power optimization and solar EV charging technologies that dramatically increase energy utilization, improve returns on energy investments  and  enable critical paradigm shifts in the way we use energy for the upcoming green electrification revolution. Enteligent’s NMax photovoltaic module power optimizers use smart digital technology to both dynamically adjust when to optimize and provide panel-level monitoring data, resulting in greater rooftop yield, more energy harvesting and higher system reliability. Enteligent’s bidirectional DC-to-DC powered EV chargers enable direct electrification from clean energy to charge faster and more efficiently, recouping up to 25% of electricity lost by traditional means.
